Allergan Medical

Glaucoma medication delivery device

This innovative eye-dropper disperses an exact dose of medication. One of the challenges of glaucoma treatment is that it's crucial to deliver consistent doses of medication. Most glaucoma patients are elderly and have trouble with administering their medicine with a traditional squeeze eye-dropper. With this device, the patient twists the purple ring, which loads a chamber with a precise dosage. The patient then positions the device to their eye, using the gray tab to hold the bottom eyelid open and steadying the device. Pressing the button delivers an atomized dose to the patient's eye.

Cryogen

First Option uterine cryoblation therapy

Uterine Cryoblation Therapy offers a welcomed alternative to hysterectomies. The design’s key elements include an enclosure that stores a probe and cables out of view when not in use, and a large digital display plus keypad which are angled and positioned for ease-of-use during the procedure. The product’s compact size, its maneuverability and its fold-away handle allow for easy navigation and storage. The design utilizes simple, clean lines which are highly suited to the medical environment, where cleanliness and clarity are a priority. In addition, the device’s design seeks to reassure patients and physicians by presenting highly complex technology in a friendly, unintimidating way.

FoodSaver

Vac 1200 vacuum packing kitchen appliance

Mid-range home vacuum packing machine with a small footprint perfect for the kitchen countertop. Controls were simplified and re-ordered for ease-of-use, and to remove complexity from the operating process.

Silicon Light Machines

Cinema projector

SLM's Grated Light Valve technology creates high-definition pixels which are swept across the screen, creating vivid color and clarity. The projector is supplied with remotely-generated laser light (RGB) via fiber optics. The unit can either be suspended from the ceiling, or can rest atop a stand in the projection room. The display panel at the back allows technicians to monitor and adjust picture quality. The projector’s form is kept angular and crisp in deference to the technology contained within. The highly saturated color of the product is meant to convey the brilliance of the projected images.

Williams-Sonoma

Grande Cuisine kitchen tools

Williams-Sonoma Grande Cuisine cooking utensils were created to marry old-world tradition to high-technology. The design is modeled after classic culinary tools, while the material is clearly of our times: glass-filled nylon, which is heat-resistant and teflon- and dishwasher-safe. The entire line of tools was built in ProEngineer, and the tooling was cut straight from the electronic files. The set of twelve tools includes spatulas, spoons and tongs.

CasaArjo

After failing to find furniture that addressed the needs of someone like me—someone who’s constantly on-the-go, hopes to stay organized and remain stylish while doing so—I decided to create my own. Through analyzing my daily comings-and-goings, I was quickly able to identify my requirements, and establish a features list for a foyer piece. The resulting design has a large mirror, coat rack, a mail sorter, a key/change dish and a storage unit. I also observed my daily dressing routine, and came to the conclusion that a companion piece for the bedroom was also a necessity. The same language was then applied to a dresser and a valet chair. The two work in unison, serving as both storage units and staging areas for the ritual of dressing.

Mentor Medical

Detector

The Detector is part of a two-stage breast reconstruction system that consists of the temporary tissue expander, and a follow-up permanent implant. After a mastectomy, the temporary tissue expander is surgically inserted into the patient’s breast pocket to encourage tissue growth and to create a space for a permanent implant. Over a several month period, a saline solution is injected through a port located in the implant. The Detector is used during office visits to electronically locate the port on the tissue expander. Six LED arrows on the top of the device direct the physician to the port. Once the port is sensed, depressing the large blue button temporarily marks the patient’s skin, indicating the injection point. The Detector’s shape allows the physician to grip it comfortably without covering the LED array.

Alara

MetriScan

MetriScan is a non-invasive, in-office bone mineral density scanner. It quickly assesses a patient's risk for osteroporosis by xraying the patient's hand. Within a minute, a physician can analyze a patient's film and quickly suggest a course of treatment. As osteoporosis is significantly underdiagnosed, early detection is critical in preventing bone density loss.

Bumper—Palm Pilot housing

In order to truly appreciate the benefits of the PalmPilot, one has to carry it around everywhere. With this in mind, the Bumper’s main focus was to protect the device while expressing the user’s cutting-edge style. The resulting unique shape is optimized for just that—protection, comfort and style. Enlarged corners cushion the device, and a slim “waist” allows for a comfortable grip. The double-hinge lid tucks neatly away and snaps into place while closed or in use. The Bumper includes a stylus port on each side, built-in loops for attaching to neck/wrist straps, and a pass-through infrared window for synchronization and beaming.
